Building on Quality Award

Shane Darcy LICWCI receives a ‘Building on Quality Award’ for his involvement with the Ardnashee School and College in Derry, Londonderry
The Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI) held its 18th ‘Building on Quality Awards’ gala dinner and awards presentation at the Winchester Royal Hotel on the 16th of May.

Shane Darcy received the ‘John Ruddell Memorial’ trophy for his involvement with the Ardnashee School and College in Derry, Londonderry.

With 17 shortlisted nominees from the UK and Ireland, a team of senior members of the ICWCI visited the project.

Head Judge of the Judging Panel, Meredith Whilden FICWCI said:

“The John Ruddell Memorial Trophy is awarded to Shane Darcy, a Clerk of Works whose enthusiasm for what he has achieved is fully evident. His meticulous approach to inspection ensured that every stage of construction met the highest possible standards. A very pro-active approach ensured work of the highest quality was maintained.

He was fully involved throughout the duration of this project, due to the great variety of end user requirements on this landmark scheme. His knowledge and expertise ensured accurate detailing and clean lines which were maintained throughout the whole construction. He personally inspected approximately 300 individual areas covering every aspect of the school: classrooms, corridors, kitchens, courtyards, stores, staff areas, and extensive external works. This exhaustive process ensured that no detail, however small, was overlooked and is a clear indicator of the quality-driven culture he installed on site.

This turned out to be a very light, colourful and pleasant building with a unique warm and friendly feel.”

Following the awards, Shane Darcy said:

“At the Ardnashee College project, I led quality management with a hands-on approach, ensuring high standards through clear communication, attention to detail and strong teamwork. Working alongside the skilled and committed team at Woodvale Construction, contributed to the project’s success and my recognition with the John Ruddell Memorial Award.”

Construction Supervisory Services Ltd. Director Gregg Robinson commented: “We are very proud of Shanes dedication and professionalism in all aspects of his work.  This award is testament to value he brings to the company”.

The headline sponsors of the event were: Howden, Polyroof, Ross Quality, calfordseaden and AP Clerk of Works Services.
